Abstract

534,848. Vehicle lamps. O'SHEI, W. E. Sept. 11, 1939, Nos. 372/41, (divided out of 25567/39) and 449/41, (divided out of 535,522). [Class 75 (iv)] A mask for attachment to the front of a vehicle lamp in place of the lamp glass comprises a disc 2 of opaque material having one or more light transmitting apertures 3 and carrying a forwardly projecting hood 4 of opaque material, the apertures 3 being covered by transparent or translucent material 6. Ventilating apertures are provided at 16, 17 A screen 18 or 19 prevents light from being emitted through the aperture 16. The ventilating apertures may be provided with valves operated manually or automatically. The valves may be operated electrically when the lamps are switched on or by heat sensitive means arranged within the lamp casing such as a bi-metallic strip 23, Fig. 3, secured to the disc 2 and provided with valves 21, 22 at its ends to open or close the apertures. Fig. 4 shows a mask of the Home Office pattern in which the light emitting apertures 33a, 33b, 33c are covered with transparent or translucent material, with wire gauze or perforated metal 46. Ventilating apertures 47, 48 are provided in the rear plate 26. Specification 534,329, [Group XXXV], is referred to.
