Abstract

536,226. Light-screening devices for lamps. HARTLEY, V. Oct. 6, 1939, No. 27393. [Class 75 (iv)] In a vehicle, street, or other lamp, light emitted by an aperture in the lamp casing is excluded from a prohibited zone, e.g. above a horizontal plane, by means of an exterior attachment 1 carrying inclined non-reflecting louvres 4 which are so arranged that extreme rays passing directly between consecutive louvres do not enter said zone, each louvre being provided with one or more integral or other upstanding light-obstructing members 4b to cast shadows on those surfaces of the louvres which face the prohibited zone, and thereby further prevent reflection therefrom. The louvres may be housed within an overhanging hood 3 which may have openings or transparent parts on its sides, and a front which is open or covered by clear glass. A screen 13 which is partly or wholly translucent may be arranged behind the louvres. The louvres and the hood may be made from pressed and/or cast metal, or from wood or thick waterproof card, and they may be made non- reflecting by spraying with matt black pigment.
