Abstract
374,911. Vehicle &c. lamps. RIVIER, L., Canton de Vaud, Jouxtens-Mezery, Switzerland. Feb. 18, 1931, No. 5200. Convention date, Feb. 18, 1930. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv).] Lantern fronts.-In a vehicle or like lamp in which a portion of the light emitted by a source is concentrated by a series of reflectors to the focus of a parabolic reflector which projects a horizontal parallel beam, the' said focus approximately coincides with one surface of a screening member which is adapted to intercept those rays which would not pass through the said focus and which would be projected upwardly by the parabolic reflector. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the filament 2 of an electric lamp bulb is placed at one focus of a main ellipsoidal reflector 1, the second focus 3 of which lies on a small oblique reflecting surface 4, Fig. 3, reflecting the light on to .a paraboloidal reflecting surface 5 which projects a horizontal parallel beam through a vertically grooved central portion of a front glass 6. The reflecting surface 5 and a bracket 24, which carries the reflecting surface 4 and acts as a screening member, are mounted on a frame 7 having a central aperture 8 opposite the reflecting surface 5, the underside of the bracket 24 and the upper edge of the aperture 8 being painted a dull black to prevent undesirable reflections. The front of the lamp may be fitted with an ellipsoidal reflector 10 which is of slightly smaller radius than the main ellipsoidal reflector 1 and is adapted to cooperate directly with the reflecting surface 5 to produce a beam directed downwardly and to both sides of the vehicle. A screen 18 is placed in front of the electric lamp bulb and the socket 21 of the bulb is slidably mounted in a horizontal support 22 carried by the lamp casing and is locked in position by a set screw. The lamp is mounted on a transverse pivot 23 and may be tilted upwardly by a control member 20 against the action of a spring 19. In the form shown in Fig. 5 a number of light sources are arranged along the focal line of one or more main parabolic trough-shaped reflectors 11 which co-operate with correspondingly shaped reflecting surfaces 12, 14 having a common focal line 13 arranged in the same horizontal plane as, and adjacent the edge of, a flat screening member 16. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the main reflector may be paraboloidal, the auxiliary reflecting- surfaces may be replaced by a lens, and the front glass may be opaque with a central transparent portion provided with the vertical grooves. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
