544,473. Vehicle &c. lamps. CHITI, A. May 1, 1940, No. 7854. Convention date, May 22, 1939. [Class 75 (iv)] In a head-lamp for vehicles in which the light, before issuing, is concentrated in a focal caustic underneath which is arranged a screen for intercepting the rays that do not pass through the geometrical focus of the reflector, another screen is arranged above the focal caustic. The arrangement enables the lamp to project a fan of light such that an overhead observer does not receive any direct or reflected rays. In the lamp shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a lamp 3 is placed at one focus F of an ellipsoidal reflector 1, and upper and lower screening-blades 4, 5 are placed at the other focus F'. The reflector 1 may have a cylindrical continuation 2 or an ellipsoidal continuation 1'. The blades 4, 5 are adjustable, the blade 5 preferably having a remote-control. The blades may be straight, or may be so shaped as to produce a beam of circular, triangular, or other section. The lamp is provided with a set of selectable colour-filters 10. Selection may be effected by a keyboard on the lamp; or remotely placed, the arrangement enabling code-signals to be transmitted. An adjustable prism may be provided for directing downwards the rays. The projecting-lens 7 consists of a front.convex part and a rear conical part; or, a compound lens may be employed. The lens may consist of relatively adjustable top and bottom parts. If it is desired to scatter the rays, the lens or the top half thereof is removed.
