Abstract

509,337. Vehicle &c. lamps. DIE TRICH, F. R. Feb. 15, 1938, No. 4710. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91. of the Acts, Aug. 19, 1938.] [Class 75 (iv)] An anti-dazzle reflector, more particularly for the headlamps of motor vehicles, comprises an ellipsoidal reflector 1 tending to project on one side of a plane containing the optical axis A-A<1>, a beam having a point or line of convergence lying in the optical axis, a hood 2 projecting from the reflector on the same side of said plane to a point beyond the point or line, of convergence and a lens or lens system which spreads the rays so that they converge on a transverse line or lines between the lens and hood. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the reflector is a semi-ellipsoid with a lamp at its focal point F. A cylindrical lens 13 ribbed vertically to form on it a series of sernicylindrical lenses 9 disperses the rays so that instead of converging to a point they converge on a line F2, Fig. 1. In a modified form, the reflector extends below the axis A-A<1> and is normally screened from the lamp by a spherical reflector arranged beneath the lamp so that it may be swung aside to give a long-range beam if required. A removable screen is mounted between the lens and source so that the light may be rendered invisible to aircraft. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also modifications in which the lens comprises a series of semi-cylindrical ribs formed on a plain glass, the reflector is parabolic instead of ellipsoidal or the light source is out of focus. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
