Abstract

407,832. Light-projectors. CUMMINS, C. P. COOTE-, 1, Hargreaves Road, Sefton Park, Liverpool. April 10, 1933, No. 10682. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv).] Lenses.-A light-projector, for use as a vehicle or personal headlamp, microscope lamp, or spotlight, comprises a light source 8 enclosed in a reflecting container having a back reflecting part 1, a front reflecting part 2 with a small aperture 3, a rear non-reflecting portion 7 and an opaque non-reflecting screen 9 between the light source 8 and the aperture 3, the arrangement being such that only diverging rays are projected, and a lens 6 or system of lenses carried by a tube or support 4 in front of the aperture 3, the inside surface of the tube or support being non-reflecting. The lens or lens system projects a beam of diverging rays. The rear reflector 1 is paraboloidal, ellipsoidal, spheroidal, or of other shape. The front reflector is plane or tapering. In the latter case, its front part may be conical and it is curved at the rear to meet the reflector 1. The projector may in addition have, as shown, a half double convex lens 5 fixed in front of, or behind, the upper half of the lens 6 so as to project the upper half of the beam downwardly, and an aperture in the lower part of the lens tube 4, to allow light to fall close in front of the projector. The aperture 3 may be D-shaped, with the lower edge of the aperture horizontal. If desired, the front reflector, lens carrier, and lenses are formed as a unit attachable to an existing lamp.
