414,569. Vehicle lamps. GASSMANN, E., Kilchberg, Zurich, Switzerland. Dec. 15, 1933, No. 35355. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1932. [Class 75 (iv).] A vehicle lamp comprises a reflecting hood 1 which completely screens from an oncoming driver or pedestrian an electric lamp bulb L having its centre A at the near focus of an ellipsoidal rear reflecting surface b, c with a remote focus B near the front edge of the hood and below the level of its substantially horizontal bottom edge d, the surface b, c being so disposed that most of the light which is finally projected is received by it from the bulb in a downward direction and is reflected as a converging beam to the remote focus whence a diverging beam is thrown forwards with its uppermost rays substantially parallel with the surface of the road. The bulb is inserted into the reflector from the top, its centre is disposed at approximately half the height of the hood, and a narrow ledge 2 supports a vertical glass panel 3. The front v of the hood may conform to the same ellipsoid E as the part b c. Specification 239,782, [Class 75 (iv)], is referred to.
