Abstract

446,954. Vehicle lamps. MACKAY, H., 1, Braid Place, Edinburgh. Oct. 25, 1935, No. 29460. [Class 75 (iv)] An anti-dazzle device fitted behind the front glass of a vehicle lamp comprises two sets of parallel spaced strips fixed immovably in a frame, one end only of one set being intersected by the other set to form a zone of cellular formation and another zone of grid formation composed only of parallel strips. The screen may be circular so as to obstruct either the whole or the central portion only of the beam, may be segmental so as to leave a segmental unobstructed portion, or it may be substantially rectangular so as to leave unobstructed portions at the two sides. The strips may be of equal width throughout, or they may vary in width so as to form a screen having a front and /or rear surface which is concave or convex. In the form shown, vertical strips 12 and horizontal strips 16, made of aluminium or other light metal or material, are arranged to form a cellular zone above a grid zone, the strips 12 being secured to truncated conical segmental rim pieces 13 having flanges 14 which may be clamped between the front glass and the reflector, or which may be formed with holes 15 for attachment to the front of the reflector by means of studs, screws, or spring clips. The strips may be slotted to intersect one another, and the parts of the screen may be united together by means of soldering, brazing, or by means of lugs and slots. Alternatively, the screen may be moulded or cast in one piece.
