Convention date, Sept. 19, 1932. [Class 75 (iv)] Lantern screens.-A vehicle headlamp, or similar lamp, provided with a main light source F1 and an auxiliary light source F2, has a colour filter 1 arranged between the light sources and the upper half of the reflector 2 and a suitably shaped screen or reflector 4 so positioned as to screen the auxiliary source F2 from the lower half of the reflector 2 and from the front of the lamp, so that when the main unscreened source F 1 is operating the upper part only of the light beam leaving the lamp is coloured, and when the auxiliary screened source F2 is operating, the light beam is wholly coloured. The colour filter may be formed on the bulb 3, or as shown in Fig. 4, may comprise a semi-cylindrical member 1 of glass, celluloid or other material held by one end in a holder consisting of a metal strip 8 bent to form a slot for receiving the end of the filter 1, the ends of the strip being held by a spring member or a wire loop 10. At the end held by the strip 8, the filter 1 may be roughened and of reduced thickness. Attached to the strip 8 is a two-piece clip, an expansible ring, or a contractible strip 7.
