Abstract

551,134. Counting-apparatus. HALL, J. F. Oct. 16, 1941, No. 13343. [Class 106 (i)] A device for counting vehicles such as railway wagons passing a fixed point comprises a base a on which is mounted a counting mechanism c and a lever mechanism for actuating the counter under control of the leading axle of the passing vehicles. The counter operating lever d is connected by a link e to a lever g normally held in the vertical position. The lever g is connected by a link h to a lever i arranged a distance ahead of the lever g rather greater than the wheel base of the vehicles. On the passage of a vehicle the lever g is rocked to the position shown to operate the counter and the lever i is raised into the path of the leading axle and when this position is reached the lever i is rocked to return the lever g to vertical or active position for the next vehicle. Cams s on either side of the lever i co-operate with a pair of spring controlled levers m to maintain the lever i in one or other of its adjusted positions. A ratchet device may be interposed in the drive to the counter so that vehicles passing in one direction only will be counted. Alternatively the upper parts of the levers g and i may be formed with one way or stop hinge joints for this purpose.
