Counters for articles.-A device for counting or - controlling the passage of mining and other railway vehicles comprises a wheel 3 with a number - of arms 4 each adapted to be engaged in succession by the axle 5 of a tub or truck and a cam disc 8 integral with the wheel 3 and adapted to effect, through a spring-controlled lever 10 and rod 13, the actuation of a rod 20' connected with an electric switch or contact mechanism associated with a distant counting-mechanism or controlling device. The wheel 3 is permitted to rotate in one direction only by means of a ratchet and pawl and thus prevent any return movement of the vehicles; additional security in this direction is effected by means of a gravity controlled lever 17 which is rocked by engagement with the axle of the passing vehicle.
