Abstract
878,181. Railway vehicle stops. ALLEN & SONS (TIPTON) Ltd., W. G. Jan. 28, 1958 Oct. 31, 1956], No. 33179/56. Class 104 (2). In a mechanism for automatically controlling rail vehicles a pivoted stop 3 and an operating member 13 are coupled by a mechaniacl linkage which is spring (9) loaded into a position in which the operating member 13 lies in the path of a vehicle 6 passing along the track and the stop 3 lies in the path of an axle 5 of another vehicle 6, the stop 3 and operating member 13 being spaced apart so that a first vehicle 6 moves the operating member 13 against the spring 9 to move the stop 3 from the path of the axles 5 of a second vehicle 6 and spring 9 returns the stop 3 into the path of an axle of the first vehicle and the operating member 13 into the path of a further vehicle after the second vehicle has passed. In the arrangement shown the mechanical linkage is a Bowden-type cable 7 and operates the stop 3 through the intermediary of a chain 16 engaging a sprocket 18 mounted on the same shaft 4 as the stop 3. The chain 16 is connected to a spring-loaded rod 8 which returns the stop 3 to the operative position. The operating member 13 is a bellcranked lever on one arm of which is mounted a roller 15 to engage an oncoming vehicle 6.
