Abstract

1,075,659. Conveyers. MECHANICAL HANDLING SYSTEMS Inc. Sept. 2, 1964 [Sept. 3, 1963], No. 35867/64. Heading B7L. A conveyer has trolleys 23 propelled along a main track 21, 22, Fig. 3, by dogs 27 depending from a chain 26 and engaging between abutments 28, a branch track 41a, 41b and a transfer conveyer guided in frame 46, Fig. 1, and having abutments 44 which mesh with main chain 26 whereby the transfer conveyer is directly driven, the transfer conveyer also having depending dogs 45 for moving the trolleys from the branch to the main track. A mechanism controlling the passage of trolleys toward the transfer zone comprises an arm 48 pivoted to frame member 49 and carrying a pusher 50 at its free end, Figs. 7, 10; a lever 51 pivoted to member 49 is pivotally connected to arm 48 by a link 52 and pivoted to lever 51 and link 52 is a latch 56 which engages a fixed stop 58 and which is also pivoted to link 52 through a lost motion connection. A dog lever 53 pivoted to catch 56 has a cut-out 54 for engagement with lugs 45 on the transfer conveyer 46 and has a stop 62 for engaging a lever 63 having a depending portion 64, Fig. 10. A spring 65 biases the control to the Fig. 7 full-line position. In operation, the rear abutment 28 of a trolley on the branch track rotates lever 63 to move it away from stop 62, the trolley engages pusher 50 and is halted. Lever 53 is biased anticlockwise until stops 67, 68, Fig. 7, abut and a lug 45 engages in. cut-out 54 to initially move lever 53 and hence rotate latch 56 within the limits of the lost motion connection with lever 52, hence freeing latch 56 from stop 58; the levers 52, 51 and arm 48 are then rotated to move the trolley along the branch track, the dog 45 on the transfer conveyer taking over the pushing of the trolley as the arm 48 and its pusher 50 moves transversely of the branch track out of engagement with the trolley. The stop 62 engages an abutment 76 to rotate lever 53 free of the lug 45 and the spring 65 returns the control to its original position. The transfer conveyer moves the trolley on to the main track where a free dog on the main chain takes over. A lever 70 is rotated by a trolley on the main track, Fig. I, to pull rod 72 and move a stop 75, Fig. 7, to adjacent lever 63 to stop it being rotated into the path of a lug 45 whereby a trolley is stopped until a free dog on the main conveyer approaches the transfer zone.
