Abstract

600,876. Rope-grips. LOWE, C. S. Nov. 2, 1945, No. 29173. [Class 78 (ii)] The rope-gripping mechanism is of the type having a jaw 22, Fig. 4, fixed to the frame of the wagon 42, Fig. 3, and a movable jaw 24, Fig. 4, which is caused to grip the hauling rope 16 through the medium of cam 64 when the two parts of the hanger are moved relatively. It is characterised in that the cam 64 is fixed on the side of the movable hanger, the movable jaw 24 is constituted by one end portion of a double-ended lever 30 that is pivoted at 32 to the fixed jaw, and the actuating means comprises a jaw-actuating member 35 operated by the cam actuated under gravity or mechanically, whereof one end portion is pivoted at 34 to the other end of the double-ended lever 30 and wherein the jaws are so spaced that it enables (a) support and depression pulleys to lie below and above the jaws; (b) in the case of under-haulage, an angle wheel to be situated between the jaws and the hanger; (c) in the case of over-haulage, angle wheels to lie above the wagon on both sides of the jaws. Figs. 3, 4. The bicable ropeway bucket vehicle is made in two p rts which move relatively to each other so as to effect the closing of movable jaw 24 against fixed jaw 22 to grip haulage rope 16. The top part 36 comprises track wheels 12 ; and hanger bar 11 to which is fixed jaw 22, the latter carrying at pivot 32 the movable jaw 24 which pivots again at 34 under the action of a double link 35 bridged by roller 74. The lower part comprises stem 48 which is fastened at the bottom to framework 60 of the bucket and at the top to sliding box 50 containing coupling rollers 56, 58; which stem carries cam member 64. As these top and lower parts move relatively under the action of the load, roller 74 is held close to cam 64 by the action of compression spring 76 and its movement is transmitted by double link 35 to cause movable jaw 24 to open or close. Alternatively, the relative motion which actuates the jaws may take place between a onepiece hanger moving relative to the wagon. Figs. 6, 7, 8. The movement of the cam 64 is controlled by the movement of weight 86, Fig. 6, which pivots at 88 in bracket 89, Fig. 8, fixed to top hanger part 36 and which projects at its lowest point 90 into slot 92 contained in the lower part 48 of the framework so that, as the weight 86 is moved over by hand from left to right (Fig. 6), pin 90 rotates and moves upwards and causes the jaws to separate.
