[Class 143] Relates to a weighing device for road vehicles wherein the distortion of the vehicle springs is utilized to give an indication of the load carried, and comprises a weighing device interposed between the rear axle and the vehicle body so as to be substantially in the central plane of the vehicle and to be actuated by the movement of the central or " neutral " point of the body. A platform 1 secured to the back axle 2 carries a fulcrum 3 on which a lever 4 is pivoted. One end of the lever carries a toothed quadrant 6 actuating an indicating spindle 8 bearing an indicating pointer at each side of the vehicle. The other end of the lever is connected by a member 13 and springs 15 to the vehicle body at the neutral or central point so that the depression of the body under the contained load actuates the indicating pointers. To prevent false readings when a load is located to the rear of the axle a further lever 21 is provided pivoted on the fulcrum 3 and bearing at one end 23 against the body and at the other end against the member 13. In order to ensure the full recovery of the vehicle body to zero position and to overcome the damping tendency of the vehicle springs, springs 26 threaded on rods may be moved by hand-levers from an out-of-action position into the position shown on the right of Fig. 3, so as to assist the vehicle springs. The weighing device may be thrown out of action by a hand-operated cam 18 moved into engagement with the lever 4, or by a pawl 20 moved into engagement with the toothed quadrant 6.
