Spring apparatus: - In a weighing-apparatus suitable for use on a crane hook or between a lifting-jack and its load, and of the kind comprising a closed ring of stiff but resilient material with mechanism for indicating the amount of a load applied to the ring, the ring is formed with arms projecting internally and separated by a gap or slot, the disposition of the arms and the dimensions of the gap being such that excessive deformation of the ring is prevented by the ends of the arms coming into contact with each other. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus suitable for use on a crane hook comprises a mild steel ring A of elliptical shape, integral with two arms A<3>, A<4> separated by a small gap. Secured to one arm A<3> is a frame B carrying a pivoted lever C terminating in a rack C<1> in driving connection with the pinion D<1> of an indicating pointer E. Fixed to the other arm is a bracket G provided with n knife-edge G<1> engaging the lever C so as to rock it and actuate the indicator when the arms A <3>, A<4> approach one another due to the deformation produced by the applied load. The proximity of the ends of the arms prevent excessive deformation of the ring. In a modification, Fig. 4, intended to work in compression, for. example between a jack and the load, the ring A<6> has internal arms A', A<8>, and the arm A<7> carries two levers C<2>, C3. The short arm of the lever C<2> is actuated by a lug G<2> on one side of the ring and thus rotates the indicating pointer E<1> by means of a pinion D'.
