Abstract

255,618. Avery, Ltd., W. & T., and Sykes, C. M. July 2, 1925. Compound-lever apparatus.-In a weighing-apparatus the pull due to the load is transmitted through an intermediate lever to a pair of superposed levers provided with pendulous resistants the axes whereof are disposed in planes containing the fulcra of the levers, the pair of superposed levers being linked together and connected to the weight indicating mechanism, the intermediate lever being adapted for alternative connection to one or other of the superposed levers whereby the leverage or power of the mchanism can be varied to suit light or heavy loads. The draw rod 3 leading from the bottomwork of the scale is connected through the intermediate lever 5 to a lever 11 coupled by a link 14 to lever 15. The fulcrum support 8 of the intermediate lever is adjustable on the housing so that the leverage of the lever may be altered. The levers 11, 15 carry pendulum resistants 20, 21 the axes of which are disposed in planes passing through the fulcrums 12, 16. The connecting link 14 is coupled by a rod 23 to the rack and pinion of the usual indicating pointer 28. In order to alter the leverage of the mechanism and thus make the scale available for weighing both light and heavy loads, the levers 5, 15 are provided with means whereby the two levers may be coupled directly together instead of connecting the levers 5, 11. Locking-mechanism.-A cam 36 rotated by an external knob may be brought into engagement with a cranked arm 35 extending from the lever 15, thus locking the system against movement. A counterweight 40 automatically returns the locking cam to inoperative position if a full locking movement of the cam has not been made. Vibration, preventing.-A dashpot 32 is connected to the lever 11 by a rod 31.
