Abstract

550,990. Pipe-joints; articulated hose; belt gearing. ANDRE RUBBER CO., Ltd., T. B., and FRENCH R. D.. Aug. 1 1941, No. 9797. [Classes 99 (i) and 99 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] A flexible coupling unit, applicable to pipe joints or for connecting the ends of belts or chains, comprises two rigid tubular elements A having on their adjacent ends outwardly - extending flanges A<SP>1</SP>, spaced apart and embedded in rubber B to which they are bonded, and an outer metal safety ring C also bonded to the rubber and provided with inturned flanges C' which overlap radially the rubber-embedded flanges A<SP>1</SP>. In one form, Fig. 1, the ring C is transversely divided into two parts surrounded by an outer ring C<SP>2</SP> and the inner surface of the ring C is concentric with outer spherical surfaces of the flanges A<SP>1</SP>. A number of units may be connected to form a flexible pipe or bend or an endless belt. Fig. 3 shows two such units, with hook-shaped flanges E embedded in and bonded to rubber B', which also covers the safety ring D.
