[Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Also in Group XXVI] The invention deals with a metering pump of the gear wheel type for filament-forming compositions. A suitable steel for the pump parts contains 10 per cent. to 16 per cent. chromium, 1.0 per cent. to 1.6 per cent. carbon and other elements up to 40 per cent. A particular example contains 1.55 per cent. carbon, 12.00 per cent. chromium, 0.40 per cent. cobalt, 0.20 per cent. manganese, 0.35 per cent. silicon, 0.85 per cent. vanadium, 0.80 per cent molybdenum and 83.85 per cent. iron. This alloy is quenched in oil at between 1750‹F. and 1850‹F. and drawn in the temperature range 600‹F. to 1000‹F. Specification 535,186, [Group XXVI], and U.S.A. Specification 2,071.250 are referred to.
