Abstract

549,594. Piezo-electric crystals. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 12, 1941, No. 11697. Convention date, Sept. 20, 1940. [Class 40 (v)] A quartz crystal element 1 adapted to vibrate at a flexure mode frequency of low temperature coefficient dependent mainly on the length dimension L and width dimension W, is cut so that the length dimension is parallel to an X axis, and the major surface is inclined to the Z axis at an angle Ï within the ranges +38 degrees to +70 degrees or -58 degrees to -80 degrees, the ratio W/L being between .05 and 1.6. The thickness T is chosen to give the desired impedance. Two pairs of electrode coatings 10, 11 serve to energize the crystal in opposite sense to give flexure mode vibrations. The crystal may be mounted by damping at the modes between conducting pins or wires and any of the means described in Specification 467,724 may be used, Specifications 464,894 and 540,184 also are referred to.
