Abstract

548,157. Piezo-electric crystals. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 12, 1941, No 11698. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1940. [Class 40 (v)] A piezo-electric quartz crystal 1 vibrating in a flexure mode is cut with the plane of its major surface parallel to the X axis, the length dimension is at an angle # of between 64 degrees and 73 degrees to the Z axis measured in the YZ plane and at an angle # of 45 degrees or 135 degrees to the X axis measured in the XY plane. The ratio of width to length W/L is in the range .05 to .08 corresponding values of W/L and # being chosen to give a zero temperature coefficient. Graphs are shown relating these quantities and frequency so that a zero temperature coefficient crystal may be designed for any frequency and having convenient dimensions. Fig. 3 shows the crystal with two pairs of oppositely energized electrodes as 10, 11, connection being made at the nodes 5 either by suspension wires or clamping pins for example by the means described in Specifications 239,175, [Class 40 (v)], and 467,724. Specification 540,184 and U.S.A. Specification 2,204,762 also are referred to.
