Abstract
533,204. Piezo-electric crystals. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Oct. 18, 1939, No. 28131. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1938. [Class 40 (v)] The temperature co-efficient of a piezo-electric element is reduced by combining it with a non-piezoelectric loading means of suitable dimensions and opposite temperature co-efficient. In Fig. 2, loading bars 3, 4 of nickel iron alloy are formed with integral extensions 5 for close attachment to a crystal 2. The points of attachment are made at antinodes of the system to reduce the tendency to separation and the system is supported at nodal points on the bars 3, 4. In Fig. 5, the loading bars 6, 7 are connected by a thin web 15 to opposite sides of which crystal plates 16, 17 are glued, the device being supported by screws at the nodal points. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement in which a composite vibrator 20, 21, 22 is adjustably supported by screws between adjustable electrode plates 18, 19. In all cases the crystal may be of Rochelle salt, the curie point of which is reduced by the addition of a small percentage of sodium rabidium tartrate. Specification 475,275 is referred to.
