Abstract

650,796. Piezo-electric crystals. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Inc. Aug. 15, 1947, No. 22769. Convention date, Aug. 16, 1946. [Class 40 (viii)] A zero temperature coefficient ethylene diamine tartrate element has its thickness dimension inclined at from 40-70 degrees to the +Y axis towards the +X, +Z plane and contained in the same plane as the length dimension and the +Y axis, this plane being inclined at 45 degrees to the +Z axis towards the +X axis. The rectangular plate shown has its thickness dimension at 63 degrees to the +Y axis and has a zero temperature coefficient for longitudinal vibration along its length at +27.5‹ C. The element may be mounted in a sealed container or may be protected by a plastic film deposited from methanol or butanol. Divided electrodes may be applied to produce transverse or harmonic vibration and two plates may be cemented together to form a bending element. Specifications 578,791, 631,345 and 632,515, [both in Group XL (c)], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also states that a Z-cut ammonium dihydrogen phosphate element may be arranged to have a zero temperature coefficient by cementing a half-wave nickel-iron alloy bar to its major surface. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
