656,818. Piezo-electric crystals. BRUSH DEVELOPMENT CO. Dec. 15, 1948, No. 32434. Convention date, April 29. [Class 40 (viii)] A plate or bar of quadrilateral outline and made of ethylene diamene tartrate has the normal to its electroded face inclined at not more than 17 degrees to the Y axis, Fig. 1 (not shown), and has the projection on the X, Z plane of one side of the outline within 4 degrees of the angles + 64 degrees or - 26 degrees with respect to the X axis. The elements may have a trapezoidal outline but are preferably reactangular as shown at 12, 14 and 15 (Fig. 3), and are suitable for operation in fundamental or harmonic face shear mode. The minimum of the temperature coefficient curve for elements parallel to the X, Z plane occurs at 76‹ C., but the minimum may be moved to a lower temperature by rotating the element out of this plane.
