553,050. Piezo-electric crystals. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 28, 1942, No. 4160. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1940. [Class 40 (v)] A rectangular piezoelectric crystal plate 1 having a low temperature co-efficient of frequency when vibrating in a longitudinal mode at a frequency which is mainly determined by its length, has its major plane substantially parallel to the X axis of the natural crystal, while the major axis X<11> of the element is inclined at an angle of 45 degrees or 135 degrees to the X axis and at an angle between 64 degrees and 70 degrees to the Z axis, the ratio of the width W to the length L having a value between .2 and 1.0. The thickness is chosen to give the desired impedance. The crystal has one or two electrodes on each major face and may be clamped at points 6 along the nodal line, for example as in Specification 467,724 or may be held by spring wire leads soldered to the electrodes at these points. Specification 540,184 also is referred to.
