Abstract
479,987. Piezo - electric crystals. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 23, 1937, No. 11684. Convention date, June 12, 1936. [Class 40 (v)] A quartz crystal 1, is cut with its plane at an angle # of +35‹ to +60‹ (or -50‹ to -70‹) with the optic axis Z, and with its major axis 5 at an angle # of 45‹ with the X-axis, the ratio of the width w to the length l lying between 0À05 and 1À0. Preferably the ratio w/l is 0À875 when # is preferably +51À5‹. When # is -67À5‹, the ratio w/l is preferably 0À67. The Specification includes a curve relating frequency to # when # = 45‹, Fig. 6 (not shown); this is to be used in conjunction with curves relating change in frequency to change in temperature for #=38‹, 51¢‹ and 60‹, Fig. 7 (not shown) ; the ratio w/l is chosen from curves relating w/l to O, Fig. 8 (not shown). The frequency variation with temperature may be finally adjusted by reducing the width; this operation has little effect on frequency since this is mainly determined by the length. The frequency may be lowered by concaving either or both ends. British Specifications 479,637 and 479,979, and U.S.A. Specification 2,032,805 are referred to.
