289,471. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Little, D. G.). April 28, 1927, [Convention date]. Piezo-electric crystals. - A quartz section for use in connection with constant-frequency oscillation-generators is cut from the mother crystal in such a way that the electrode surfaces 24 - - 27 and 28, 30, 31, 32 respectively are parallel both to the optical axis 2, 2 and to one of the principal piezoelectric axes 5, 5, instead of being parallel to the optical axis and the principal crystallographic axis 3, 3 as usual. The fundamental crystal frequency then depends upon the thickness 27, 32 coincident with the crystallographic axis 3, 3 and perpendicular to the piezo-electric axis 5, 5, so that a comparatively large electrode area is made available in a crystal section of high fundamental frequency.
