Abstract
547,557. Centreless grinding-machines. LIDKOPINGS MEKANISKA VERKSTADS AKTIEBOLAG. Nov. 15, 1940, No. 16556. Convention date, Nov. 4, 1939. [Class 60] The grinding-wheel or regulating-wheel of a centreless grinding-machine is carried by an over-slide which is mounted on an under-slide, the direction of movement of the two slides forming an acute angle. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the grinding-wheel 1 is mounted directly on the bed 10, and the regulating-wheel 3 is mounted on an over-slide 20 supported by an under-slide 21, the directions of movement of the two slides forming an acute angle V which is equal to the angle, preferably 10 degrees, between the tangent-planes of the work-piece 6 and the wheels. The arrangement simplifies setting, since the angle V can be maintained constant, regardless of the size of the work-piece or wear of the wheels, merely by so adjusting the over-slide and the work-support 5 that the axes of the work-piece and regulating- wheel lie in a plane g-g which is parallel to the direction of movement of the over-slide. The work-support 5 is carried by a slide 22 on the over-slide. The regulating-wheel, instead of being mounted directly on the over-slide, may be mounted on a rotatable support 12 which, as described in Specification 547,556, permits the regulating-wheel to be tilted to one side or the other, thereby enabling the machine to be employed for through-feeding of a long work-piece in opposite directions alternately.
