Abstract

248,756. Aktiebolaget Svenska Kullagerfabriken. March 5, 1925, [Convention date]. Milling - machines.- A spherical surface is formed on a blank by effecting relative rotation between the blank and a tool about an axis through the centre of the surface, and a simultaneous relative rotation about a second axis also passing through the said centre and inclined to the first axis; rotation also is effected about an axis not passing through the centre. As applied to the production of an internal surface 7, Fig. 1, a tool 1 is rotated about its axis 3 and also about a parallel axis 4 passing through the centre of the surface 7, relative rotation between the blank 5 and the tool also taking place about the axis 6 of the blank, the axes intersecting at the centre of the surface. In forming an external surface, the working surface of the tool is concave and the axis 3 lies outside the surface being formed; alternatively, the tool has a working surface corresponding to the surface 7, Fig. 1, and the work occupies the position of the tool 1, the axis 4 intersecting the axis 6 of the work as in Fig. 1. Figs. 3 and 4 show a machine for use as set out above. The tool 1 is carried by a spindle 8, mounted eccentrically in a sleeve 9, which is eccentrically mounted in an outer sleeve 10, whereby the eccentricity of the spindle 8 can be varied. The spindle 8 is rotated by belts 16, 17 with a tightening-device 15 and the sleeve 10 is driven by a chain 14. The work is carried by a chuck 18 carried by an angularly adjustable slide 20 carried by a slide 21; feed is applied by adjustment of the eccentricity of the spindle 8 or by moving the tool axially. Specification 155,339 is referred to.
