[Class 39 (i)] A glow-discharge lamp has electrodes comprising one or more rectangular plates of substantially the same size and coated with emissive material, the plates of one electrode being staggered relatively to those of the other electrode. The plates may be of iron and are welded to iron or nickel support wires. The filling is neon, helium or a mixture, at a pressure of 1-8 mms. The lamp may operate on A.C. or D.C., the appearance of the glow being independent of the polarity. A series resistance in the cap limits the power consumed to 1-2 watts.
