Abstract
542,291. Zinc sulphide. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. May 1, 1940, No. 7831. Convention date, May 13, 1939. [Class 1 (iii)] [Also in Group XL] Zinc sulphide is precipitated from an acid solution and calcined with a small amount of a copper compound to form a luminescent paint. The copper is between one part in 5,000 and one in 50,000 of the zinc, preferably between one in 10,000 and one in 20,000. Examples are given in which the sulphide is precipitated with hydrogen sulphide from solutions containing from 0.1 to 1 gramme-molecule per litre of zinc. A small quantity of ammonium chloride or zinc chloride may be added to the precipitate, which is calcined at from 800 to 1,200‹C. The zinc sulphide may be mixed with titanium oxide, barium or calcium sulphate, asbestos or silica in the making of paints. Specification 473,715 is referred to.
