Abstract
542,057. Heating mixture. ALLMAN, E. J. Sept. 17, 1940, No. 14263. [Class 7 (iii)] In means for heating the mixture supply, particularly to tractor engines, by means of the exhaust gases, a readily removable cover is provided so as to close in the inlet manifold and conserve the heat of exhaust gases diverted from the exhaust pipe. Fig. 1 shows an air inlet 1 and mixing-chamber 2 leading to the manifold 4, exhaust being directed at 17 against the elbow in the inlet pipe by a pipe 16 communicating with a tubular element 10 inserted between the exhaust pipe 6 and manifold 5. The inlet piping and the greater part of the pipe 16 are enclosed by a cover 19, 20 attached at 21. In a modification, Fig. 8, exhaust is admitted at 25 to a box 24 surrounding a part of the inlet manifold 4, and is caused to circulate round the manifold by a deflector 26, the whole of the inlet manifold being fitted with an oval-shaped cover 27.
