Abstract
1513504 Heating I C engine intake air CUMMINS ENGINE CO Inc 29 June 1976 27089/76 Heading F1B [Also in Division F4] A passage 44 formed by a tube or cast in the intake manifold conveys air heated by a burner 36 to a manifold outlet communicating with one of the cylinder air intakes 12 remote from the burner. In another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), respective passages (78 and 80) lead from adjacent the centrally positioned burner (74) to manifold outlets communicating with end cylinder intakes (66 and 72). Air is supplied to the manifold by a centrifugal compressor 24 driven by an exhaust gas turbine 20 via an air cooler (34), Fig. 2 (not shown) extending the length of the manifold within a housing (30) covering the manifold. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1255158.
