Abstract

541,584. Bolts ; bolting. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BRATBY; D. G. Aug. 3 1940, No. 12548. [Class 89 (i)] [Also in Group XI] A bolt or stud is expanded to facilitate tightening up by inserting anon-inductive electric resistance .heater in an axial bore. The resistance may be made by cutting longitudinally through a rod of "Nichrome" (Registered Trade Mark) leaving two limbs 1b, 1c joined by a short end portion 1a, the limbs being separated by mica. Asbestos tape may be wound on the rod at 3, 5, and the free ends may pass through an insulating bush 6 and be connected to copper terminals 8. Substantially no magnetic field is created by such a heating element.
