554,041. Electric soldering-irons. KOLSTERBRANDES, Ltd., CORFIELD, D. N., ATKINSON, A. B., and CUNDY, R. W. Dec. 12, 1941, No. 16048. [Class 39 (iii)] An electric soldering-iron comprises a copper bit Q in which the heating element is retained by a screw E engaging a tapped hole R, the parts being held together by a collar S engaging the flanged end of the bit and a bush C carried by a metal tube B to which a handle may be attached. The heater comprises a longitudinally slotted steel tube H in the slot of which one end of a wrapping of asbestos paper M is secured. Nickel leads G, L are anchored by passing longitudinally between the layers of wrapping and are secured to the resistance winding I, which is covered bv further wrapping M<SP>1</SP> and a nickel sleeve J. The free ends of the leads are insulated by asbestos or glass fibre sleeving K.
