Abstract

540,449. Hydrocarbons. ANGLO-IRANIAN OIL CO., Ltd., and ADEY, S. W. March 8, 1940, No. 4406. [Class 2 (iii)] At the conclusion of a process for alkylating isobutane or isopentane with lower olefines in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid, the crude alkylate is washed or treated at normal temperature with fresh concentrated sulphuric acid with agitation in order to remove contaminating sulphur and the alkylate then distilled. The acid used in the washing treatment may afterwards be used in the alkylation process. Advantageously, an additional mixing vessel may be incorporated in the alkylation plant in which the washing treatment is effected, the product being then soda treated and distilled.
