Abstract
Hydrocarbons such as motor benzol or petrol are treated with a solution of ammonia to remove sulphur and colour forming compounds, and to the resulting purified hydrocarbons an oxidation inhibitor is then added. Benzol is agitated with a fresh or used aqueous solution of ammonia and after separation, the desulphurized benzol is washed with water, dilute sulphuric acid, soda solution and finally with water. An oxidation inhibitor such as cresol is then added. The purified hydrocarbons before addition of the inhibitor may be freed from thiophene by treating a fraction thereof boiling between 80 and 120 DEG C., with concentrated or slightly diluted sulphuric acid.
