Abstract

Soluble acid resins are obtained by treating coumarone resin or solvent naphtha or "heavy benzole" with concentrated or fuming sulphuric acid. When solvent naphtha is treated, the resulting acid resin is dissolved out by water from the unattacked oil. The products, after removal of free sulphuric acid by alkalis, lime, &c. are used as tanning-agents. Specification 146,166 is referred to.
