Abstract
1-Naphthol-4-sulphonic acid is obtained by sulphonating a -naphthol with chlorsulphonic acid at a low temperature in an inert solvent, preferably tetrachlorethane; benzene or nitrobenzene may also be used. Examples are given of the preparation of a solution of the sodium salt by directly treating the reaction mixture with water and sodium carbonate, and also by way of the calcium salt.
