Abstract

In the production of resins from solvent naphtha by polymerization of the coumarone, indene, &c. present by means of sulphuric acid, the resulting naphtha solution of resin, after neutraliztion of acid present by means of alkali, is washed with an acid weaker than sulphuric acid, for example, hydrochloric acid, prior to distillation. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), the neutralization by alkali may be omitted and the acid solution washed direct with hydrochloric acid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Resins are separated from solvent naphtha by polymerizing the coumarone, indene, &c. present by means of sulphuric acid, the resulting naphtha solution of resin, after neutralization of acid present by means of alkali, being washed with an acid weaker than sulphuric acid, for example, hydrochloric acid, prior to distillation. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the neutralization by alkali may be omitted and the acid solution washed direct with hydrochloric acid.
