Abstract

315,356. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. July 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Caoutchouc, synthetic.-Butadiene hydrocarbons are polymerized by-means of sodium hydride. In an example, liquid butadiene is agitated in an iron pressure vessel with sodium hydride at 30-50‹ C., the sodium hydride being removed from the product by treatment with alcohol or by dissolving the polymerization product in a solvent. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes an example in which butadiene mixed with benzene (free from thiophene) is heated with sodium hydride at 30-40‹ C. in a pressure vessel, the reaction mass being then diluted with acetone to precipitate the polymerization product, which is washed with alcohol and then with water. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
