Abstract

307,936. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. March 16, 1928, [Convention date]. Hydrocarbons; ketone polymerization products. -Styrene is polymerized by emulsifying in aqueous solution or by shaking with a colloidal solution at temperatures not greatly exceeding 60‹ C. and at ordinary pressure. In an example, styrene is agitated with milk for 10 days at 60‹ C. forming a resin which is elastic at 100‹ C. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes the polymerization of other substances containing a double bond, and includes an example in which methylene methylethyl ketone is agitated with a 1 per cent solution of sodium oleate for 8 days at 60‹ C. forming a yellow resin. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
