540,052. Treating wool mixture yarns and fabrics. BLEACHERS' ASSOCIATION, Ltd., PARKER, C. S., FARRINGTON, F., and STUBBS, A. E. April 5, 1940, No. 6141. [Class 15 (ii)] Yarns or fabrics containing wool and other fibres are rendered unshrinkable by treatment with alkali hydroxides or alcoholates in organic solvents. The organic solvent may be alcohol and the alkali may be anhydrous caustic potash. A yarn or fabric containing about 50 per cent wool is treated for 1 hour or more with a concentration of alkali in ethyl or isopropyl alcohol not exceeding 3 per cent; sodium iso-propylate may replace the anhydrous caustic potash. Other examples are given.
