Abstract
553,442. Dialysts. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS, Ltd., LOASBY, G., and JACKSON, D. L. C. Nov. 19, 1941, No. 14861. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Group IV] Parchmentized fabrics which can be used for dialyzing purposes are obtained by treating nylon fabrics, including mixed fabrics, with a swelling agent comprising a solution of a phenolic substance under conditions of temperatures and concentration such that a substantial shrinkage in the length of the fibres occurs and that after removal of the swelling agent the density of the fibres remains substantially unaltered. The concentration of phenolic substance should be at least 2.5 per cent. and the temperature at least 25‹ C. though saturated solutions and temperatures of 100‹C. may be used. In one example, nylon fabric immersed for 3 minutes in a solution containing 15 grams of resorcinol in 100 grams of water at 70‹ C. acquired a parchmentized appearance and shrunk from 120 ends and picks per inch to 140 ends and picks per inch.
