Abstract

315,428. British Celanese, Ltd., (Assignees of Platt, H.). July 13, 1928, [Convention date]. Yarns, treating with Liquids.-The tendency to bleed in the sizing and subsequent de-sizing of dyed yarns is reduced by using as size a composition which contains glue or gelatine and which is substantially neutral. The process is more particularly applicable to yarn made of or containing organic derivatives of cellulose such as cellulose acetate which has been dyed with certain water insoluble dyes that are solubilized by means of a dispersing agent. As suitable dyes are mentioned anthraquinone vat dyes such as 1.4 dimethyldiamino anthraquinone or 2.4 dinitro-4'- amino-diphenylamine, or " Setacyl," or the so called direct or " Dispersol " dyes. The sizing bath may be composed of gelatine 9 lbs., glycerine 2 lbs., castor oil 1.5 lbs., sodium benzoate 0.25 ozs., water 260 lbs., and is given a pH value of 7 to 7.5 by the addition of sodium carbonate. It is used at a temperature of 70‹ C. After the yarn has been sized it is woven or knitted into a fabric or otherwise worked and then de-sized by treatment with water at 50-70‹ C.
