Abstract
511,160. Casein fibres; viscose. FERRETTI, A.. Feb. 7, 1938, No. 34651. Convention date, March 2, 1937. Divided out of 510,616. [Class 2 (ii)] Artificial textile fibres are made by passing an alkaline solution of casein through spinning nozzles;, coagulating the fibres (in a manner other than that described in Specification 510,131), and thereafter rendering them insoluble in a bath or baths of which the temperature exceeds 25‹C. A band of coagulated fibres may be conveyed, under tension or not, through a preparatory bath which contains sodium chloride and aluminium salts, with or without formaldehyde or other soluble salts of alkaline metals or alkaline earth metals, or through a solution for rendering the fibres insoluble consisting of sodium chloride, aluminium salts and formaldehyde, with or without the addition of other soluble salts of alkaline metals or alkaline earth metals, the temperature of the bath being 50-65 or 70‹C. The fibres may be subsequently cut to the desired length and then immersed in the same solution at 35-40‹C. Fibres which have been rendered insoluble at a temperature only slightly above 25‹ are subjected to a further treatment, preferably after being washed and dried, in a solution of formaldehyde, with or without addition of other salts, at a temperature of 70‹. After the fibres have been dried, they may be treated with mono-, di or tri-sodium phosphate, with or without formaldehyde. The fibres may be produced from a mixture of casein and cellulose viscose.
