Abstract
525,157. Artificial threads, films &c. COOP CONDENSFABRIEK FRIESLAND. Feb. 15, 1939, No. 5017. Convention date, March 1, 1938. [Class 2 (ii)] Artificial fibres, filaments, threads, films and the like are produced by spinning a solution of a structureless protein in alkali, mixed if desired with viscose, into a spinning bath consisting of a solution of one or more organic and/or inorganic neutral or acid salts to which has been added only such an amount of organic and/or inorganic acid that the pH value of the bath is more than 2. The protein may be casein, soya protein, fish protein or other animal or vegetable proteins suitable or rendered suitable for the purpose. Organic substances remaining substantially non-ionized in solution such as ethyl alcohol, glycerol, glucose, and urea, may be added to the spinning bath. Spinning baths mentioned are (a) an aqueous solution containing lactic acid, sodium lactate and magnesium sulphate and (b) a solution of acetic acid and sodium sulphate to which small amounts of acetates may be added. The filaments, films, &c., after coagulation, may be treated with a hardening agent such as formaldehyde.
