Abstract
525,156. Artificial filaments, films &c. COOP CONDENSFABRIEK FRIESLAND. Feb. 15, 1939, No. 5016. Convention date, .Feb. 19, 1938. [Class 2 (ii)] Fibres, filaments, threads, films, and the like are obtained by spinning a protein solution, particularly casein solution, if desired mixed with viscose, into a coagulating bath, and subjecting the products to the action of steam or water-vapour. The treatment with steam or water-vapour may be carried out after leaving the coagulating bath but before the drying step e.g. while the filaments are on their way to a cutting,or spooling device, or on the spooling device itself, preferably while the filaments are still under tension. The treatment may be carried out while the threads are on profiled rollers or just before the threads meet these rollers. The fibres may thus be fixed in a curled condition. The steam or water-vapour may be mixed with other vapours or gases such as ammonia, formaldehyde, sulphur dioxide, alcohol, or carbon dioxide. A steam jet may be directed on to the threads, or the threads may be passed through a chamber in which a damp and warm atmosphere prevails. Steam may be blown into the chamber. Casein, soya proteins, fish proteins, or other animal or vegetable proteins may be used. The treated products have low shrinkage properties. The spinning solution may be a solution of the protein in caustic soda solution. Solutions of mineral or organic acids may be used for the coagulation baths.
