[Class 74 (ii)] A welt is turned in a straight-bar machine employing a welt hook 15 for each needle space, by engaging the welt hooks with the thread of the initial welt course while the thread is still engaged by all the needles 10, disengaging the thread from every second needle, retracting the welt hooks from the needles while knitting proceeds, and subsequently advancing the welt hooks to restore the loops to the needles. Points 21 may be employed for pressing the beards of the spaced needles for disengaging the thread from these needles. Specification 537,336 is referred to.
