Abstract

534,909. Aerials. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd: Nov. 27, 1939, No. 30921. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1938. [Class 40 (v)] A short-wave aerial, particularly suitable for receiving broadcast television signals, comprises a pair of L-shaped wires 1, 3 and 2, 4 arranged horizontally. Each wire has an overall length of half the shortest working wave-length, and each is connected to one side of a transmission line TL. The figure-of-eight response of the two quarterwave dipoles 1, 2 when combined with the out-of-phase signals from the two quarter-wave dipoles 3, 4 produces a substantially-circular or non-directional response. A second pair of aerials, dimensioned for a shorter wave-length, may be connected in parallel with the first, in order to enable the aerial system to cover a wider range of frequencies.
